Safy Sniper (D/Isr) Safy Sniper è Safy (Assaf) Etiel, nato ad Haifa e partito nel 1986, dopo scuole e servizio militare, alla volta di Berlino per lavorare come performer e freelance per l’industria televisiva, per le produzioni multimedia e per il teatro. Qui inizia a collaborare con l’artista israeliano Ron Katsir. Dal ’91 al ’94 studia alla Gerrit Rietveld Academy di Amsterdam dove consegue un BA in visual arts. Al ritorno a Berlino, con l’artista Heinrich Dubel dà vita al progetto Sniper, consistente in una location disegnata da Dubel e Safy nel quartiere di Mitte, in un sound system (snipersoundsystem) e nello snipervision, una serie di sistemi sviluppati ad hoc per creare live audiovisivi basati sul collagismo. Dai primi anni ’90, Safy si concentra sul Vj-ing lavorando in contesti di tutti i tipi (club, convention, musei, party privati) e producendo video correlati all’attività di miscelatore (videoclip, videodesign, scenografie video). Safy diventa presto una figura di punta a livello internazionale e si esibisce in contesti di ricerca (partecipa anche Netmage nel 2002) e in numerosi club. A sei anni di distanza VDj Sniper presenta Giants of Rock/Star Search & Destroy, in cui il sonoro originale delle sequenze video - in passato manipolato da Safy a partire dall’obsoleta tecnologia del laserdisc - diventa parte costitutiva della performance audiovisiva interamente basata sul concetto della sincronizzazione. Safy Sniper è stato invitato a Netmage 08 per uno speciale show/contest con Doravideo a celebrare, chiudere e suggellare l’epoca e la pratica del Vj-ing e del cut’n’mix live. Live-Media Safy Sniper is Safy (Assaf) Etiel, born in Haifa, moved to Berlin in 1986, after his studies and the military service, to work as performer and freelance for the television industry, for multimedia productions and theatre. After the collaboration with the Israeli artist Ron Katsir, he spent from ’91 to ’94 at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam where he achieved a BA in visual arts. Going back to Berlin, with the artist Heinrich Dubel he started the project Sniper, consisting of location designed by Dubel and Safy in Mitte, in a sound system (snipersoundsystem) and in snipervision, a series of systems developed ad hoc to create audiovisual live sets based on cut'n' mix strategies. Since the beginning of the ’90s, Safy focused on Vj-ing working in every possible contest (club, conventions, museums, private parties) and producing videos linked to a mixer activity (videoclip, videodesign, video scenographies). Safy became a key figure internationally reknown and showed in different research contexts (he also took part to Netmage 2002) and in many clubs. After 6 years VDj Sniper presents Giants of Rock/Star Search & Destroy, where the original sound of the video sequences- in the past manipulated by Safy beginning from the obsolete technology of the laserdisc - becomes an important part of the audiovisual performance entirely based on the concept of synchronicity. Safy Sniper has been invited to Netmage 08 for a special show/contest with Doravideo to celebrate the time of Vj-ing and cut’n’mix live.
